Description:
On the heels of two successful compositions, Igor Stravinsky
wanted to compose a concert piece for piano and orchestra.
What resulted was a piece in which the piano played
more against the orchestra than with it, taking the
part of a puppet-come-to-life named Petrouchka. Dayton
Philharmonic Orchestra Music Director Neal Gittleman
gives us some insight into why Stravinsky let collaborator
and friend Serge Diaghilev talk him into turning it
into a ballet.
