Description:
When he wrote Serenade, Leonard Bernstein got
his inspiration from a re-reading of Symposium,
Plato's celebrated dialogue on the nature of love. Bernstein
wrote Chichester Psalms on commission by the
Dean of Chichester Cathedral in Sussex, England, who
wanted a new work for a festival featuring three combined
cathedral choirs. Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Music
Director Neal Gittleman details the connections between
these two quite different, but both engrossing and thoroughly
enjoyable, works.
