Description:
One of our favorite cellists returns to perform the
centerpiece of this program, Steven Albert’s lyrical
Cello Concerto. Transformation is the key to the work,
its themes shifting and changing in a musical catharsis.
So too, Schubert’s great Ninth is a study in metamorphosis,
as the great master starts with a delicate, sylvan melody
and, by the final resounding chord, it blossoms into
the sunlight. Composer, and Indiana neighbor, James
Beckel pays tribute to Schubert with an inventive work
of sonic splendor based on themes by the Viennese master.
