Description:
The Portrait Season opens with a gallery of composers
whose works describe the American psyche. Leonard Bernstein’s
breakthrough Symphony No. 2, a piece that straddles
the line between symphony and concerto, returns the
marvelous Mr. Krieger to our concert stage. The evening
includes a sweeping, joyful overture by Tomas Svoboda,
Jennifer Higdon’s ethereal tone poem, and Howard
Hanson’s warmly lyrical Second Symphony.
